If humidity is high in your area during the hot, summer months; the air conditioning system should remove the excess humidity. Sometimes a supplemental dehumidifier will be needed to manage humidity not addressed by air conditioning.

Your portable, room humidifier may or may not have a filter to replace. Traditionally, room humidifiers will use a paper "wick" (also called a filter) that absorbs water for distribution into the air via a fan.

Many new room humidifiers create a mist by using ultrasonic vibration to break water into small particles and disperse them into the air. These types of humidifiers (sometimes called "cool mist") do not require a filter.
