Filter Description

The EcoAqua EFF-6048A Filter is used in refrigerators by GE and is compatible with part number XWF. The EFF-6048A filter creates better tasting water for drinking and making beverages as well as clean, clearer, healthy ice. The EFF-6048A is used in newer bottom freezer, French 3-door, and side-by-side refrigerators. The XWF water filter cartridge holder is located in the back upper-right corner of the fresh food refrigerator compartment.
NOTE: This filter will not replace the GE XWFE Filter

Installation Instructions

How To Install the XWF Filter:

Bottom Freezer & French 3-Door Refrigerators

  1. Open the filter cartridge housing by squeezing the 2 front tabs and gently pulling down
  2. Remove old filter by pulling down, grasping and twisting counterclockwise, discard
  3. Line up the ports on the new filter with the ports on the filter cartridge holder and twist clockwise about ¼ turn
  4. Swing the filter up and close the filter cartridge housing buy pushing the lid upwards until the tabs lock into place
  5. Run water from the dispenser for 2 gallons to clear the system
  6. Press and hold the RESET WATER FILTER button for 3 seconds to reset the filter timer

Side-By-Side Refrigerators

  1. Remove old filter by grasping and twisting counterclockwise, discard
  2. Insert new filter upwards, so that ports on the new filter and ports on the filter cartridge holder are lined up
  3. Twist the filter clockwise about ¼ turn
  4. Run water from the dispenser for 2 gallons to clear the system
  5. Press and hold the RESET WATER FILTER button for 3 seconds to reset the filter timer

Activated Block Carbon Technology

The uses activated block carbon technology. Carbon is one of the most adsorptive substances, and its numerous and microscopic pores make it capable of adsorbing many microscopic contaminants. Adsorption is a chemical bond between the surface of the carbon and a molecule (contaminant).

  • Activated carbon is a carbonaceous, highly porous adsorptive medium that has a complex structure composed primarily of carbon atoms. The networks of pores in activated carbons are channels created within a rigid skeleton of disordered layers of carbon atoms, linked together by chemical bonds, stacked unevenly, creating a highly porous structure between the carbon layers. Activated carbon is able to attract and capture a whole host of contaminants, including chlorine and other organic chemical compounds.
  • Activated carbon means that the carbon has been treated at 1000°C with steam molecules to selectively burn holes into the carbonized raw material, creating a multitude of pores inside the carbonaceous matrix. This process creates so much surface area that a teaspoon of activated carbon has roughly the same surface area as a soccer field!
  • Activated block carbon, then, with its use of adsorption, is one of the most effective water filtration methods in use today.
