Filter Description

The EcoAqua EFF-6019A is designed to replace the GE RPWF filter cartridge. It is used is used in Bottom-freezer and Side-by-Side refrigerators by GE. The EFF-6019A uses advanced carbon block technology to create better tasting water for drinking and making beverages as well as clean, clearer, healthy ice. This filter is located in the bottom of the fresh food compartment, or in the left hand door.
Note: This filter will not replace the GE RPWFE filter

How to Install the RPWF Filter:

Filter Location:

Bottom-freezer (BF) refrigerators:
Filter is located in the left hand fresh food door (recessed in door flange) or in the fresh food interior on the left side wall near the top.

Side-by-Side (SxS) refrigerators:
Filter is located in the bottom of the fresh food compartment. Access the filter using the flip cover without moving the vegetable pan.

  1. Remove old cartridge by gently lifting the filter away from housing until first release, and then lift again to remove.
  2. Align top of filter with cartridge holder and push until cartridge is fully seated.
  3. While continuing to ensure cartridge is fully seated in the holder, gently rotate the filter (inward for BF models and downward for SxS models) until it can no longer rotate.
  4. Run water from the dispenser (approximately 2 gallons or about 5 minutes) to clear any particles and remove air from the system.

Activated Block Carbon Technology

The uses activated block carbon technology. Carbon is one of the most adsorptive substances, and its numerous and microscopic pores make it capable of adsorbing many microscopic contaminants. Adsorption is a chemical bond between the surface of the carbon and a molecule (contaminant).

  • Activated carbon is a carbonaceous, highly porous adsorptive medium that has a complex structure composed primarily of carbon atoms. The networks of pores in activated carbons are channels created within a rigid skeleton of disordered layers of carbon atoms, linked together by chemical bonds, stacked unevenly, creating a highly porous structure between the carbon layers. Activated carbon is able to attract and capture a whole host of contaminants, including chlorine and other organic chemical compounds.
  • Activated carbon means that the carbon has been treated at 1000°C with steam molecules to selectively burn holes into the carbonized raw material, creating a multitude of pores inside the carbonaceous matrix. This process creates so much surface area that a teaspoon of activated carbon has roughly the same surface area as a soccer field!
  • Activated block carbon, then, with its use of adsorption, is one of the most effective water filtration methods in use today.
