Refrigerators use a water filter to produce clean water and ice. The LG LT700P filter traps and removes a variety of impurities that might be in the local water supply. It meets NSF International Standard 42 and 53 for the reduction of chemicals, minerals, dirt, cysts, particulates and other contaminants. The filter dispenses water at a flow rate of half a gallon per minute. To receive up to 200 gallons of clean water, replace the filter once every six months or sooner if the flow rate or water quality decreases.

I was offered off brand filters at a very goood price. It was not obvious until I asked that these filters are not designed to the same specifications as the OEM. If there is a warranty claim on the refrigrator ice machine, it could be denied based upon use of in adaquate filtering. It is not obvious on the website that these filters are substandard to the manufacturer's specs. Therefore after talking to the sales person, I went with the original manufacturer's product.I am pleased that they were honest.

When replacing a new filter, flush about 2 gallons of water through the filter before drinking the water. This will eliminate any carbon particles leftover from the manufacturing process.
