Discount filters for Aprilaire furnaces come in a number of sizes. Aprilaire designs different filters for their various models so it is important to determine which replacement filter is appropriate for any given furnace.

Old filters can be replaced with those direct from the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) or with a number of non-OEM filters that provide filtration as good as or better than the OEM filters. It is a matter of personal preference and individual needs. Whether OEM or non-OEM filters are ordered, discount filters are available for up to $25.00 less than the original list price.

Non-OEM filters offer the benefits of higher MERV ratings. The higher a discount filter's MERV rating, the more particulates it will remove from household air. The OEM filter from the factory is rated MERV 10 while the lowest MERV rating offered here is MERV 8, which will scour the air of the same as a factory filter with the exclusion of automobile emissions. OEM discount filters have a recommended replacement rate of nine months rather than six months for non-OEM filters.

Non-OEM discount filters with higher MERV ratings will remove more atmospheric contaminates. Additionally, they have a recommended six month replacement rate. These may be a desirable option for homes that include residents with asthma or airborne allergies. A MERV 13 rated discount filter that fits Aprilaire furnaces will remove lint and dust, dust mite debris, pollen, mold spores, auto emissions, smoke, pet dander, bacteria, and tobacco smoke from room air. People with compromised pulmonary function or compromised immune systems may benefit from air that is more highly filtered.

Local, exterior climate and indoor conditions can affect a filter's effective working lifespan. Regular inspection of discount filters is recommended no matter which model is chosen. Clogged filters can affect the integrity of an Aprilaire furnace's function, causing wear and tear to components. This typically causes more frequent repairs and a more limited capacity. Clogged filters also negatively impact circulating air quality. Less filtration occurs when the filter's media can no longer hold additional contaminants.

Free shipping is routine for Aprilaire filters. All discount filters should be returned in the same condition as received and with the original packaging, within one year of the date of purchase if needed.
