I was very excited about finding these filters online for much cheaper than in the stores. I think my expectations were too high though because I am not sure that these filters have helped my allegies yet or have cleaned my air anymore than the MERVE 3-4 filters. It has only been a couple of weeks so I hope that they will start to help more once I change the filters out.

If these filters are actually MERV 13, confirmed by objective testing, then they are a bargain. These filters are not 1 inch thick, but neither are those sold by most competitors. Not a big issue, but since they are pleated, the depth and number of actual pleats really does have an effect on the surface area of the filter medium, so its a significant concern. The filter medium used in these filters is remarkably similar to that found on much lower rated filters manufactured by 3M and others found stocked at grocery and hardware stores. Appearances can be deceiving, so I won't assume the MERV 13 rating is false, and I won't know the results of using these filters until I have used several...months in the future. They appear to be effective, but do seem to create more resistance to airflow than similar products I've used....as evidenced by the tenacity of their grip to the air return frame and the audible hiss of air passing through the filter when the air handler is running.

The furnace filters were exactly what I ordered. MERV 13 in the size I require are hard to find.

3M's Filtrete and their annoying rating system hide the fact that the 1900 is a MERV 12 - impressive for a 1" filter but not the best. These are MERV 13 (MERV 16+ is HEPA-range) and for a 1" filter you're not going to get better than that. Oh, and did I mention they're much less expensive than 3M?

Foam gasket tape can be used to insure a tight filter fit and eliminate air filter bypass.
