The filter traps all types of contaminant particles, dog fur, dust, soot, etc. but it does get dirty quickly which I guess means it is really working. I switched from the thin filters you buy at the home improvement stores to this one and we have noticed a huge difference in air quality. This isnt the least expensive solution but worth it for us.

Works much better than the thinner ones I used to use that had to be changed monthly. These that I installed over a year ago were still in good shape, and the accumulated dust stuck to them rather than flying all over the place when I took them out. The fit is excellent.

Product is the exact replacement for the filter that the installation company provided on their "free" annual check up for our furnace - but at less than one half of the cost.
From the looks of it after removal, and from the fact that our house is virtually dust free, it is certainly doing the job well!

These filters from Discount Filters were just as good if not better than the ones I had been getting from my AC guy, AND were less $$, even with shipping. They are rated for 6-mo usage, but I have gotten up to a year with them. You might be able to extend their life by cleaning them, but attempt this only if you have a large shop-vac available; even then it is not easy.

If you are using a fiberglass panel filter, consider upgrading to a pleated filter. Pleated media means longer filter life and improved air cleaning capabilities.
