Aprilaire / Space-Gard #213 Original, OEM High Efficiency Filtering Media - MERV 13 (Single Filter)
Dust, mold and pollen aggravate asthma, allergies and respiratory problems. Air cleaners from Aprilaire remove these and other dangerous particles from the air. With highly efficient media in the filter, the air cleaner removes particles as small as 0.3 microns and receives a MERV rating of 13. Because air quality varies, each filter in residential or commercial areas should be replaced when the airflow slows or when the filter's performance decreases. The old filter easily slips out and allows the new filter to insert into place.

The 213 filter does a great job. I was amazed at all the dust and dirt on the filtration side of the filter compared to the blower side. This filter not only does the job but, it's good for 2 years before it needs replacing! Great product.

We upgraded to this new media filter last summer and it's much more efficient than the previous model. It's definitely easier to install. Another great April Air product.

Prior the the aprilaire i had a electronic filter that worked find BUT (i had two) they broke, they were a [*] to clean and used energy to work.Aprilaire causes less dust to get on the furniture (according to my wife) which would seem to me that the air is cleaner -and it only cost the cost of the element.

This is the second time I've purchased AprilAire 213 Media Filters ("whole house filters") from iaqsource.com. In our previous house we had "regular" flat filters in several places in our ceiling, and I didn't even know that there was such a thing as a whole house filter. When we bought our current home 3 years ago it already had this type of filter system in the attic.
I've been told that this type of filter is more efficient at removing dust particles, allergens, etc. than the "regular" room-type filters that one can buy at big-box home improvement stores, that are installed in the ceiling.
Even though these filters are much more expensive than the kind we used to use, when you consider that they only need to be changed on average 2 times per year, vs. 4 or 5 for the other type of flat filters, you actually save a lot of money by using this whole-house filter.
I will say that when I recently needed to order more of these filters, I did a lot of searching for prices on the Internet, and the prices at iaqsource.com were by far the best, especially when buying multiple filters (I bought 5 and used a coupon code to receive a discount).

When replacing a new filter, flush about 2 gallons of water through the filter before drinking the water. This will eliminate any carbon particles leftover from the manufacturing process.
