Also, do some research on how much fluoride is added to drinking water in your state or city. Figure out if it\u2019s more than the recommended 0.7 to 1.2 of fluoride per liter (mg\/L) of drinking water to help prevent tooth decay, as the United States Public Health Service (PHS) recommends. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Does Your Fridge Water Filter Remove Fluoride?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Many Americans have tried to assuage their guilt and worry about drinking fluoride-laced drinking water by only using the filtered water from their refrigerators. But is your fridge water filter capable of filtering out fluoride in water?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That\u2019s something that you will need to research, as each fridge water filter is built differently. Also, if you aren\u2019t regularly replacing your water filter, then you might be drinking contaminated water unknowingly. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

What Kind of Water Filters Do the Job Well?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Gravity Water Filters<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

There are some great gravity water filters on the market that remove fluoride in water as well, removing 97% of fluoride in drinking water. They are cheaper than RO systems as well, but they are not as effective at removing other contaminants. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

They are also quite slow, so if you use 5-9 liters of drinking water per day, then this could work for you. Otherwise, stick to an RO system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Water Filter Pitchers<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

If you have a Brita water pitcher or something alike, you might wonder if it removes fluoride from your drinking water. If your water filter pitcher is using activated carbon to filter out impurities, then it will remove contaminants, but it will not touch fluoride.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Check your water filter pitchers\u2019 specifications though. Some of them do remove fluoride, and they are great because you can pop it in the fridge to cool your drinking water on hot summer days. In addition, remember to replace your pitcher filters<\/a> regularly. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Distillation<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Many people are into distillation as a way of purifying their drinking water. This process does remove fluoride, but it can be time-consuming and the process can be slow, especially if you don\u2019t have any of the special equipment. You could purchase a water distiller, but they only produce 2 liters of water at a time, so they are more suited to households with low water demand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Until the debate in the scientific community about whether fluoride in water is good for us or not comes to a satisfactory end, it\u2019s better to be safe and remove fluoride from your drinking water.
