Filter Process
On its journey from natural water sources, water treatment facilities, and to your fridge, your home’s tap water supply is susceptible to contamination by a number of foreign substances. Harsh impurities such as bacteria, mold, cysts, lead, chlorine, dirt, and other chemicals all have potential to reach your water from various water sources. The UKF8001AXX-200 water filter works to remove these substances from your water. How does this filter work? They answer is activated carbon. Activated carbon is the name of an extremely porous form of carbon. The increased surface area on activated carbon makes it possible to capture and hold a variety of substances. This makes it an exemplary tool for filtration.
Inside your UKF8001AXX-200 resides a block of activated carbon. As water gets pushed into the fridge filter from your home’s tap water supply, it is moved through the central carbon chamber. This is where the filtering process begins. Impurities in the tap water are then captured by the carbon and held there as clean water is allowed to pass through. This water is then pushed back out of the filter chamber resulting in clean, healthy drinking water. This entire process occurs in a matter of seconds!
Installation
So you’ve got your UKF8001 replacement filter, but how do you install it? It’s simple! Locate your filter typically found in the upper right-hand corner of the fridge. The filter housing will have one of two different types of housing – push or pull. The UKF8001AXX-200 is easy to install, just follow these steps:
PUSH – Tab located in the front of the filter housing
1.) Push the tab inwards to release the housing.
2.) Turn the filter counterclockwise until you feel it release.
3.) Once unlocked, the filter can be pulled straight out.
4.) To install the new filter, reverse this process.
PULL – Pull the recessed tab on the underside of the filter housing
1.) Pull the tab towards you to release the filter housing.
2.) Twist the filter counterclockwise until it releases from the housing.
3.) Once released, the filter can be pulled straight out.
4.) To install a new filter, reverse this process.
It is good practice to always flush around 2 gallons of water through a new filter after installing it. This will make the new filter ready to produce clean and clear water. For help on how to flush your filter, check out our guide.
Filter Change Reminder
Now that you have your new filter replacement installed, you can enjoy clean, clear drinking water in your home all of the time. The UKF8001AXX-200 filter won’t last forever, however. After continual use, the carbon in the chamber will begin to lose its efficacy. This means there is a potential for a drop in water quality, which could lead to possible health concerns or maintenance issues. To ensure that this doesn’t occur, one should make sure to perform routine filter changes at least once every six months. Doing this will result in healthy, pathogen-free drinking water throughout the year.
