Inside your unfiltered tap water, tiny foreign substances have the opportunity to seep into your water supply and cause contamination. The GWF refrigerator water filter replacement is an effective tool that can be used to provide your home with crystal clear, better-tasting drinking water. The GWF filter is a replacement aftermarket filter designed to be compatible with the GE MWF water filter and a number of brands and models including Hotpoint, GE, and Kenmore. This filter replacement has a 300 gallon capacity and 0.5 gallon per minute flow rate. Never worry about drinking dirty water again!
How It Works
The GWF fridge filter reduces chlorine taste, chlorine odor, and other foreign contaminants, but how does it do this? Using an extremely porous form of carbon called “activated carbon,” the filter is able to capture and hold onto undesirable substances in your tap water allowing clean water to pass through. A block of activated carbon is inserted in an inner chamber inside the GWF filter. This is what gives the filter cartridge its effective filtration power.
As soon as water enters the filter, the filtration process begins. Water rushing in from your household’s tap water supply comes into contact with the activated carbon and begins the purification process. The increased surface area of the porous mineral attracts and captures foreign particulate in your water as clean water is allowed to pass through. Clean, healthy water is then pushed back out of the filter and is then available for consumption. This process occurs in seconds and should dramatically increase the quality of your refrigerator ice and water.
Installing your new GWF fridge filter isn’t complicated and can be done in minutes. First, find your water filter cartridge in your refrigerator. This is typically located in the back upper right corner of the refrigerator compartment. You should replace your filter once the red indicator light goes off or if the flow of water to the dispenser or icemaker decreases. If your fridge does not have an indicator light, change your filter at least once every six months. Once you’ve located your filter cartridge:
- Turn the filter cartridge ½ turn counter-clockwise until it releases and remove.
- Fill the new replacement filter with water from the tap to allow for better flow immediately after installation.
- Insert the top of the new cartridge into the cartridge holder.
- Turn the filter slowly clockwise until the filter cartridge locks in. Do not over turn the filter cartridge. The cartridge will move about ½ turn and will automatically raise itself into position as you turn the cartridge.
Now that your filter is installed properly, be sure to run about 1-2 gallons of water (3-4 minutes) through the dispenser to clear the system and prevent sputtering. If your refrigerator has a reset water filter button, press and hold.
Your GWF water filter, while providing your home with clean and healthy drinking water, won’t last forever. Over extended use, the water running through the filter and passing over the carbon will begin to degrade the efficacy of the filter. This can eventually lead to a drop in water quality as well as an increased risk for potential health and maintenance problems. By performing routine filter changes at least once every six months, you can enjoy the peace of mind of having healthy, pathogen-free drinking water and ice in your home.
