Because the FMS-2 filter uses a filtration process that has been scientifically engineered, you get water that is free from such contaminants as mold, bacteria, asbestos, lead, cysts, and chlorine.  To do this, it uses something called activated carbon.  This type of carbon has had its surface area increased by making it more porous.  This makes it adsorbent, which means that any contaminants will stick to its surface.  This is opposed to being absorbent where the contaminants would be sucked inside the carbon.

The process of filtration for the FMS-2 starts as soon as the water from your fridge goes into the filter chamber.  As the chamber fills with water, it gets pushed into another chamber with the activated carbon.  This is where the magic happens and the water becomes clean.  All of the materials in the water that are unwanted are captured and then held by the activated carbon so that you get the clean water you deserve.

How to Install the Filter

The FMS-2 discount filter is simple to install.  At the top right corner of your fridge, you will either have a push tab or a pull tab.

For a push tab:

  1. Push the tab to open the compartment
  2. Turn your old filter counterclockwise until you can pull it out
  3. Reverse the process to install the new one

Fur a pull tab:

  1. Pull the tab
  2. Turn your old filter counterclockwise until you can pull the filter out
  3. Reverse the process to install the new one

Once you have replaced your old filter with this one, remember to flush at least 2 gallons of water through it before actually using it.

Remember to Change the Filter on a Regular Basis

This is critical to remember.  No refrigerator water filter will last forever.  Over time, the carbon will start to degrade.  When this happens, the carbon is no longer able to catch and hold all of the contaminants.  This means that they could remain in your water.  Also, when you have a fridge filter that is not at its peak, you could run into things like health risks and even an increase in your energy costs.  In order to reduce the risk of these things happening, make sure that you change the filter out twice a year.  Go ahead and mark it on your calendar now so that you won’t be caught off guard when it is time to replace it again.
