Built as an aftermarket replacement filter for the UKF8001 model water filter, the Filter 4 works in a variety of refrigerator brands and models including fridges by Maytag, KitchenAid, Amana, Whirlpool, Viking, as well as others. Using this water filter in your home can greatly reduce the instances of drinking water contamination in your tap water supply so that you can enjoy clean, better-tasting water all of the time.
Filtration Process
In a matter of seconds, the Filter 4 purifies your home’s tap water supply producing healthy, crystal clear drinking water. How does it do this? The answer is activated carbon. An extremely porous form of the material, the increased surface area of this positively charged carbon makes it an effective tool to capture and hold unwanted substances in your tap water supply.
The water filtration process occurs when water running from the line to your fridge enters the water filter. As the filter fills with water, the water is pushed through an inner chamber containing a block of activated carbon. This carbon block captures and holds on to any undesirable substances that may be present in your tap water. These substances can include mold, lead, bacteria, cysts, chlorine, as well as other materials. The water then is pushed back out of the filter and drinkable water is made readily available to use. The result of this entire process is a refreshingly clean-tasting drinking water supply in your home.
Installation Process
Changing your fridge filter isn’t a difficult process, and it can be done in a matter of minutes. Locate your filter in your fridge. This is typically found in the upper right-hand corner of the fridge. The filter housing will have one of two different types of housing – push or pull. Once located, you can install the Filter 4 by following these simple steps:
PUSH – Tab located in the front of the filter housing
1.) Push the tab inwards to release the housing.
2.) Turn the filter counterclockwise until you feel it release.
3.) Once unlocked, the filter can be pulled straight out.
4.) To install the new filter, reverse this process.
PULL – Pull the recessed tab on the underside of the filter housing
1.) Pull the tab towards you to release the filter housing.
2.) Twist the filter counterclockwise until it releases from the housing.
3.) Once released, the filter can be pulled straight out.
4.) To install a new filter, reverse this process.
A newly installed filter should be flushed before its initial use. Run about 2 gallons of water through the new filter to ensure that any water produced will be clean and drinkable.
Filter Change Reminder
After installing your new fridge filter, you can enjoy clean, healthy drinking water all of the time. However, a water filter will not last forever. After continual use, the water running through the filter chamber will begin to degrade the carbon. This means that the carbon could lose its efficacy in filtering out undesirable substances and can lead to a drop in water quality as well as an increased risk for potential health concerns. Ensure that you never have to worry about these problems by performing routine water filter changes as least once every six months. Doing so will result in healthy, better-tasting drinking water and ice throughout the entire year.
