Know Your Fridge Filter: ES-1

On a hot day, the first thing on your mind is a cool and refreshing glass of water. Water is essential for keeping you hydrated, cooled down, and refreshed throughout the day. If you’re like many people, you may rely on your refrigerator to supply your cold water. However, if the water filter in your refrigerator is not functioning optimally, you could be at risk for ingesting hazardous chemicals, particles, and other debris that could pose a risk to your health. Keep your water clean by using the ES-1 water filter. It is an aftermarket replacement for the DA29-00003G replacement filter which is commonly found in many standard refrigerators.

How the Filter Functions

While the product of a refrigerator water filter is miraculous, the science behind it is not. The process of filtration is actually quite simple and involves a substance called activated carbon. There is a chamber of activated carbon inside each water filter which has an extremely porous surface. Inside the chamber, potentially damaging particles such as mold, cysts, lead, bacteria, asbestos, and chlorine are adsorbed by the carbon, removing them from the water itself. Adsorption is a little different than absorption as it is when a liquid, dissolved solid, or gas adheres to the surface of something. When you press the water button on your fridge, water flows into the ES-1 filter and is immediately purified, delivering clean and cool water to you in an instant.

Tips for Installation

Such a powerful piece of equipment sounds like it might be hard to install, but it is not. All you have to do is locate the ES-1 discount filter in the upper right hand corner of the fridge and then determine the type of release it has.

Pull tab releases have a knob on the front of the filter.

  1. Push the tab straight in to open the outer casing.
  2. Turn the filter inside counterclockwise until you feel it loosen.
  3. Pull out the filter and put the new one in its place.

Push tab releases have a knob on the bottom.

  1. Pull the tab forward to open the outer casing.
  2. Turn the filter inside counterclockwise until you feel it loosen.
  3. Pull out the filter and put the new one in its place.

It is important to always flush at least two gallons of water through your new filter before you use it for drinking to ensure it is functioning correctly.

Follow a Schedule for Replacement

You’ll soon be addicted to your new ES-1 fridge filter, so its important to make sure you’re maintaining it correctly. Refrigerator water filters typically need to be changed every six months, as the activated carbon inside the filtration chamber does begin to degrade after time. It will become less and less effective at picking out all of the particles lurking in the water, eventually increasing the risk of health problems. A replacement filter will ensure you and your family always have clean drinking water at a finger’s touch.
