Filtering ProcessUKF8001 Fridge Filter

The most important part to the filtering process is a little substance called activated carbon.  Activated carbon is carbon that has been engineered to have a larger surface area.  Activated carbon contains millions of tiny little pores that increase the surface area and make the substance more porous.  This results in a substance that is excellent at adsorption.  Adsorption is different from absorption in that it allows the liquid to pass through while the smaller particulates adhere to the surface.

The process begins as soon as you push the button or lever that forces water to enter the filter.  Inside, the water reaches the inner chamber that contains the activated carbon.  The unfiltered water passes through the chamber in a matter of seconds and comes out clean on the other side.  Particles that were in the tap water adhere to the surface of the carbon and stay there.  The CLCH101 is best at removing the taste and odor of chlorine from your water supply.  The result of using the CLCH101 is crystal clear, refreshing water.

Installing Your Filter

The CLCH101 is very easy to install if you follow these simple steps:

This type of filter is found in the upper right-hand corner of your fridge and will have one of two release types, push or pull.

If it is a push tab, the tab will be located in the front of the housing:

  1. Push the tab to release open the housing.
  2. Turn the filter counterclockwise until it releases.
  3. Pull the filter straight out.
  4. Reverse the process to install your new filter.

For a pull tab, the tab is located on the underside of the cover:

  1. Locate the recessed tab and pull it forward to release the hatch.
  2. Twist the filter one quarter counterclockwise.
  3. Pull the filter straight out.
  4. Reverse the process to install your new filter.

Every time you replace your filter we recommend you flush approximately 2 gallons of water through the filter before using it.

Routine Filter Replacement

As wonderful as the CLCH101 is, it cannot last forever.  Over time, after filtering out more and more impurities, the carbon becomes less effective at doing its job.  If you have a fridge filter but are noticing that dreaded “tap water taste,” it most likely needs to be replaced.  To ensure that your family is supplied with clean and clear water year-round, we recommend changing out your filters at least once every six months.  We make it really convenient by offering one, two, and three-packs of filters so that you always have a brand new filter for when you need to replace your old one.  To find the filter that fits your fridge at an incredibly low price, visit our easy-to-use Filter Finder.

  1. We bought a three pack of these filters and the chlorine taste in the water was disgusting. We had the brand name maytag filters previously so have gone back to those. I see above that you claim they are fantastic for removing chlorine taste but the taste while using the CLCH101 was worse than the straight tap water. Now we’ve paid for three filters and only ever used one for three weeks.

    what a waste of money!

  2. Didn’t have problem with particles in ice till I changed the filter with the clear choice brand. Water seems to come out clear. I just dumped all ice from the tray for the second time. We will see what happens. Any ideas?
