Water Filtration Process
Backed by its scientifically tested filtration method, the 8001 filter removes tiny particles from your tap water supply. Activated carbon is the key behind this effective filtration process. What is activated carbon you ask? Activated carbon is created when carbon is engineered to have increased surface area, which forms a porous substance. This substance adsorbs those unwanted materials better. Adsorption, unlike absorption, is the when a gas, liquid, or dissolved solid adheres to a surface.
The process begins when water starts to enter the filter from your home water supply. As the water is pushed through an inner chamber, it comes into contact with the activated carbon. The carbon traps undesirable particles as the water passes through.
Substances that can be found in your water supply include, mold, bacteria, asbestos, lead, cysts, and chlorine. The water that passes through to the other side is healthy, clean, and better tasting. This process takes place quickly every time you push the button or lever on your fridge, resulting in clean water whenever you want.
How to Install Your Filter
The 8001 filter is easy to install in the matter of a few minutes. The placement of these filters is generally in the upper right corner of the refrigerator. Simply follow the steps, depending on if your filter is a push or pull release:
If it is a push tab, the tab will be located in the front of the filter housing:
- Push the tab inward to open the housing.
- Turn the filter counterclockwise until it releases.
- Pull the filter straight out.
- Simply reverse the process to replace the filter.
If it is a pull tab, it will be recessed on the underside of the front of the cover:
- Pull the recessed tab forward to release the hatch.
- Twist the filter one quarter counterclockwise.
- Pull the filter straight out.
- Simply reverse the process to replace the filter.
After replacing your filter, run approximately 2 gallons of water through the filter before using it.
Routine Water Filter Replacement
As wonderful as water filters are, just like anything else, they cannot last forever. The activated carbon eventually degrades after filtering water over time. Degraded carbon is less effective at filtering out undesirable substances from your water supply. An old filter can potentially raise a number of issues such as increased energy costs and health risks.
