The refrigerator water filters model 46-9992 is a replacement for the ufk8001 water filter. The Filtration Process
The 46-9992 or UKF8001 refrigerator water filter cleans your water with a carbon filtering system. The carbon is solid inside the filter; the water enters the filter from the rear, water line to your refrigerator. Next, the water runs through the carbon and it attracts key contaminants of asbestos, turbidity and any other particles inside it. It then allows purified water to reach the icemaker and the water line in your refrigerator door with that fresh, crisp taste.
Some of the items that refrigerator water filters remove are asbestos, cysts, lead, pesticides, trihalomethanes, and volatile organic compounds. When asbestos is swallowed it can disrupt the digestive system and can cause cancer. Giardia cysts are parasite that infects the intestinal tract from animals with worms. Lead is poisonous in any form. Pesticides can sink into the ground and contaminant the water supply. Trihalomethanes are in the water as a by-product of chlorination and can cause bladder and colon cancer.
Water Filter Installation
The 46-9992 or UKF8001 filter may be located in the upper right back corner of your refrigerator or on the left front kick panel at the bottom of your freezer.
In Refrigerator Steps
- Open the refrigerator door and push in the water filter to unlock it.
- Turn the filter clockwise approximately one-half turn to release it.
- Grasp the filter firmly and pull it straight out.
- Insert a new water filter, press it inward turn it about one-half turn counterclockwise.
In Kick Panel Steps
- Remove the cover from the water filter if it has one, otherwise just pull the filter forward to release the lock.
- Turn the water filter one-quarter turn counterclockwise and pull it straight out.
- Place the new water filter into the slot and turn it one-quarter turn clockwise. Replace the cover if your refrigerator model has one.
Water Filter Life
You should change your refrigerator water filter at least every 6 months for the carbon filter to improve the taste and quality of your drinking water and make it safe and sanitized for your family’s good health. Some models of refrigerator’s have a water filter light that is green when it is operating correctly. When the light turns yellow, you should order a new discount fridge filter. When the light turns red the filter needs replacing because its life is used up and it is no longer cleaning your families water. Remember to flush the water system by holding the water dispenser and collecting about two gallons of water to dispose of when replacing a refrigerator water filter.
