Filter Process

The 46-9101 uses activated carbon in order to extract unneeded additives from your water supply through a sophisticated scientific filtration process. What is activated carbon? Activated carbon is a form of carbon specifically treated to be very porous. This increased surface area allows for high-powered adsorption. Unlike absorption, such as a sponge in water, adsorption is the process of a gas, liquid, or dissolved solid adhering to a surface.

The filtration process begins when water enter the filter chamber from the channel in your refrigerator. As the filter begins to fill with water, it is pushed through an inner chamber which contains the activated carbon. Here, the activated carbon attracts unwanted particles such as chlorine, cysts, lead, asbestos, bacteria, mold, and more. In this way, these superfluous compounds are removed and held within the activated carbon while the clean water passes through the carbon, delivering clean, great-tasting water.

How to Install Your Filter

Similar to the DA29-00020B fridge filter, the 46-9101 is easy to install. Simply follow our easy-to-follow step-by-step guide…

Usually located in the upper-right corner of the fridge, the water filter will have one of two types of releases: push or pull.

If it is a push tab, it will be situated in front of the filter housing:

  1. Open the housing by pushing the tab in. This releases the latch.
  2. Remove the filter by turning it counterclockwise until it releases.
  3. Pull the water filter straight out.
  4. To replace the filter, simply reverse this process.

If it is a pull tab, it will be found on the front underside of the refrigerator cover:

  1. Remove the housing cover by locating the recessed tab.
  2. Pull the tab forward to release the latch.
  3. Turn the filter one-quarter turn counterclockwise.
  4. Pull the filter straight out.
  5. To replace the filter, simply reverse the process.

Always remember that after replacing a water filter, it is important to flush about two gallons of water through the filter before drinking.

Change Your Water Filter Routinely

Filters don’t last forever! As time goes on and more and more water passes through 46-9101 filter, the activated carbon will begin to deteriorate. This means that the carbon will gradually become less effective in adsorbing unwanted particles in your tap water supply. Of course, an ineffective fridge filter running at anything less than maximum capacity is counterproductive ad can lead to increased health risks and energy costs. In order to reduce the chance for health or maintenance issues, make sure to regularly replace your refrigerator water filter once every six months.
