The 242017802 filter uses a scientifically engineered filtration process that utilizes activated carbon to remove unwanted impurities from your home’s tap water. Activated carbon is charcoal that has been treated in particular ways to make it extremely porous. This increases the surface area of the carbon, which allows for superior adsorption. Adsorption is the process of a gas, liquid, or dissolved solid adhering to a surface. So this treated carbon can capture and hold more matter than ordinary carbon could.

So how does the filtration process work? When water enters your refrigerator through the attached line, it first enters the filter. As it fills up, the filter pushes the water through an inner chamber containing the activated carbon. The carbon attracts chlorine, cysts, lead, asbestos, bacteria, mold, and any other undesirable particulates that may be in your water supply. All of the unwanted materials are captured and held within the carbon as clean water passes through. The result of this entire process is crystal clear, refreshingly clean water.

242017802 Installation Instructions

The 242017802 filter is easy to install. Typically located in the upper right corner of the fridge, this is a push-push filter. To remove the old filter and install a new one, simple follow these steps:

1.) Turn off the ice maker by raising the wire signal arm.

2.) Remove the filter by pushing on the end/face of the filter.

3.) Slide the old water filter cartridge straight out of the housing and discard it.

4.) Using the alignment guide, slide it gently into the filter housing until it stops against the snap-in connector at the back of the housing.

5.) Push firmly until the cartridge snaps into place (you should hear a click as the cartridge engages the snap-in connector).

6.) Turn on the ice maker by lowering the wire signal arm.

7.) Press and hold the Water Filter button on the Ice & Water Dispenser control panel for three seconds. When the display changes from Red to Green, the status has been reset.

8.) After replacing the water filter and in order for the ice maker to work properly, it is necessary to clear air from water filter tubing. Once ice maker begins making ice, allow the bucket to fill completely, then discard the first TWO FULL buckets of ice. It will take at least two days to completely fill the bucket on regular ice making mode or 1 1/2 days on fast ice mode.

Remember to flush approximately two gallons of water through the new filter before using.

Change Your Water Filter Routinely

Remember, water filters don’t last forever! Over time, as more and more water passes through the 242017802 filter, the carbon inside will fill with more and more impurities. As it fills up, the carbon will begin to degrade and will no longer be as effective in capturing the impurities and particulates found in your water supply.
