How Landscaping Can Reduce Energy Costs

By: Krysten C.

With temperatures rising, our energy bills may be making its way up as well. Finding new ways to save energy becomes more important during extreme weather conditions.

PLANTING THE SEED OF SAVINGS

Have you ever considered landscaping for energy savings? Most of us use landscaping for aesthetics only. However, proper planting can make a difference on your energy costs too. While adding attraction to your home, you can lower the price of heating and cooling.

Properly placed trees and shrubs help shade your home in the summer and block wind during the winter months. This means that your HVAC system gets a little bit of a break and so does your wallet.

According to TogetherWeSave.com, “Proper placement of trees and shrubs can help you save up to 10-percent on your energy bill.”

Basically, by deciding to not replace your air filter you’ve decided to put one of the biggest home investments at risk for failure. Putting in the money twice a year for a new air filter will save you the huge cost of fixing or completely replacing your HVAC unit or entire system.
